A Sports Medicine Specialist Can Treat Your Musculoskeletal Injuries

Every day thousands of people suffer from injuries that involve their musculoskeletal system. Some of these injuries may heal on their own or under the supervision of a regular doctor. Other injuries, particularly those involving children require special treatment from a sports medicine specialist. One cannot stress enough the importance of going to the right doctor any time you are ill or become injured. While a general doctor may be able to prescribe something to minimize the amount of discomfort you feel, they are not properly trained or knowledgeable about musculoskeletal injuries in detail. This means that if you suffer from pain or an injury that is unfamiliar to them, you will wind up needing to see a sports medicine professional.
Children and older people who happen to sustain broken bones, sprains, and other injuries need to see a sports injury specialist because of their age. Children are still growing and their bones need to be monitored to ensure that they grow properly. Injuries can cause complications that can lead to developmental challenges as the child gets older. When the elderly get injured, their body has a reduced capacity to heal, so it may take longer for them to heal properly. In some cases they may need therapy and joint replacements so they don't suffer from a downgrade in the quality of their life.
The reason why a sports medicine professional is so important is that they spend many years learning all about the musculoskeletal system and about the injuries that can cripple it. Since there are hundreds of bones and muscles in the human body, it doesn't make sense for you to go to a general practitioner when you could go to a specialist who can identify your problem and provide the right course of treatment right away.
Since sports related injuries are the most common type of injuries in the world, more importance is being placed on getting them treated by a specialist to prevent further injury and related health conditions. This means that you should take some time to search for specialists in your area and find one that treats patients in your age group.
In order to reduce your chances for getting hurt, you need to learn how to move and lift properly. This means that you should stretch to make your limbs limber throughout the day. Stretching allows your muscles to get warmed up. Make sure to stretch at a natural pace that is not abrupt. It helps to keep your joints limber so that you can move easier, have an increased range of motion, and add more strength when you use your appendages.
Any time you feel pain that is so severe that it restricts the use of your limb, you need to see a sports medicine specialist right away. They can prescribe something for the pain and treat the cause of your condition so that you can move freely.

Relaxation Techniques to Against Stress

With the increased pressures of modern life more and more people find it difficult to switch off and relax at the end of the day. This can lead to sleepless nights which creates further anxiety that can make life feel more unbearable.

Eventually this can create a feeling of being overwhelmed or stressed out. However, there are lifestyle changes that you can make in order to reduce your stress and promote relaxation in your life:
  1. Get regular massages. We all know about the reputed benefits of a massage in aiding relaxation of the body and mind. Whilst you could get a partner or close friend to give your shoulders, back or feet a good rub down, to truly feel long-term benefits you should enlist the services of a trained professional to give you regular massages.  Don't think of this as an indulgent treat but rather an essential part of your well-being routine. For as well as relaxing the muscles (and making you feel as chilled out as an Eskimo), the benefits of regular massage include improved blood flow and a boosted immune system.
  2. Hang up your phone. When you leave the office you need to be able to switch off from work - and that includes your phone! This is important to do as once your work colleagues get into the habit of being able to contact you at all hours they will. Remember, the phone is there for your convenience, not just the caller's.
  3. Compile some chillout tunes. Put together or buy a CD of relaxing music to ease your mind and help you switch off from the outside world. Research has shown that even from the womb relaxing/classical music can be beneficial in promoting well-being.
  4. Read a good book. Emily Dickinson wrote, " There is not frigate like a book to take us lands away," which is a great way to sum up the way in which reading a good book can help you to get your mind off your worries - if only for a while.
  5. Practice yoga. Yoga is a great way to escape from everything going on around by taking you into your own little world. As well as being a good form of working out, it can help you to build your self esteem and confidence, helping you to bring about a positive change in your life.
  6. Drink herbal teas. Herbals teas such as peppermint and chamomile make better options than caffeine-infused drinks such as tea and coffee. The key to helping you to adapt your choice is to try different types until you find flavours which suit you taste buds. Many varieties are now widely supplied at most supermarkets.
  7. Eat Right. All too often, and perhaps because of the hype of all the fad diets out there, people underestimate the impact of diet on our health and well-being. Simple steps such as cutting down on caffeine, alcohol and food high in fat or calories can produce beneficial effects such as helping you to feel healthier and less highly strung out or irritable.
  8. Work Out. Now we're not talking about hours every day or "going for the burn." If you haven't exercised for a while you will want to take it easy and start off with manageable sessions. As well as the physical benefits of exercise, regular sessions can help to reduce your anxiety levels as "feel good" hormones are released.
  9. Breathe. It's just like they say when you have a moment in which you feel you're going to have a meltdown. Take a deep breath and count to ten. Whilst this is a good start, you should aim to set aside time to sit down relax and focus on your breathing to the point that it slows down and feel more in control.
  10. Get back to basics. Escape the hustle and bustle of your everyday stresses and strains by getting out to the countryside or a place close to nature. This can often provide the space you need to clear your mind, find focus and perhaps inspiration.

Creativity and the Artist

The artist's inspiration has been the object of wonder and misconception ever since early Man created the first painted images on the walls of his caves thousands of years ago. In truth, there is nothing mystical about creative thought; the average person uses it in his daily life to solve everyday problems, just as the engineer, scientist and architect employ it in their professions. And to expand the mind's ability to conjure new ideas can be accomplished by simply learning to break free of restrictive ways of thinking, and by exposure to new and stimulating experiences.

Everyone falls into a mental rut sometimes, where habit takes over. But habit is the enemy of creative thinking! You have to open your mind to new ways of experiencing and perceiving in order to gain fresh ideas. There are many established ways to improve your ability to think creativity. To begin with, you should always strive to avoid time-worn cliches; for the visual artist, this could mean taking a common subject, such as a still-life, and injecting some new element into it that normally wouldn't be associated with that subject. Consider my painting "Voodoo", found on my website. Instead of the usual flowers and vase, I have used an African ceremonial mask and a human skull, adding a darker twist to the traditional still-life genre.

Many innovative ideas originate in the subconscious mind. Therefore dreams have often been the source of new ideas for the artist, and for Surrealists such as Salvador Dali they were usually the main source of inspiration. Sometimes the mind can be stimulated simply by drawing or painting in a different location than usual. I often find walking or pacing helps me to think and sort out any confusion in my mind. Trying your hand at other fields of artistic expression, such as writing or music, can give you new perspectives. Literature and film can also be rich sources of ideas. I found that studying poetry helped me to draw more upon the subconscious, and to gain a greater appreciation of the principles that are common to all art forms.

One of the greatest obstacles to creativity is conformity. Don't allow yourself to be restricted by what is socially or culturally acceptable; society encourages uniformity of thought and attitude--this is the death of creative thought! Follow your own instincts, believe in your own view and perceptions; don't be afraid to be provocative if that is what your concept demands. Look at my works "The Lady Of Ill Repute" and "The Years"--certainly not everyone's idea of beauty. But beauty can be found in the truth expressed in these women's faces and in their lives, like the beauty found in the ruins of a forgotten temple. In these women one sees the scars of past experience and the price that time exacts from the human soul. In short, they tell a good story, something art should always strive to do.

It is a great mistake to think that every idea that you arrive at should be a good one. The creative process is by nature somewhat chaotic--this naturally means that some of your ideas, perhaps most of them, are simply bad. This is fine! Even a bad idea can be of value, as it may lead you to make an unconscious connection that eventually matures into something useful. In fact, sometimes deliberately coming up with a bad concept can open the mind to something better. It's all a matter of making unconscious associations.

I have come to believe that there is no truly original idea. Everyone builds upon the work of others. Consider Van Gogh's style: his use of color comes from the Impressionists; the hard outlines and flat forms from Japanese woodcuts; his everyday subject matter from earlier artists like Millet. Perhaps his fluid brushwork is his only personal contribution to his distinctive style. But by blending these different elements he came up with something totally unique and personal. This is an example of combining influences. And there are other approaches, such as modifying, maximizing, minimizing, substituting, rearranging, reversing, exaggerating and separating.

Inspiration is always an uncertain commodity; some people will always have the advantage over the rest of us when it comes to innovative thinking. But everyone can expand their capacity for creative thought by ridding themselves of old ways of thinking, and by exposure to new experiences. However, it isn't always necessary to be clever; the most important consideration for the artist is to have something to say, and to say it well. I hope that the methods discussed here will help you to do just that.

A Guide to Bird Watching Binoculars

Bird watching binoculars are a great investment for anyone who enjoys watching stunning birds in flight, nesting, eating and singing among other activities. Being able to watch birds in their natural habitat lets you learn more about the birds and how they interact with their environment and each other.

Anyone who appreciates birds understands that once you enter a bird's habitat you are altering their behavior or you and causing them to fly away leaving you unable to appreciate their beauty.

In order to truly enjoy bird watching you need to be equipped with bird watching binoculars that allow you to observe birds from a distance. A bird in flight is a graceful, awe inspiring spectacle and the right bird watching binoculars will allow you the opportunity to watch the graceful flight of a bird from virtually anywhere.

Humming birds have caught the imagination of countless children and adults and with the right binoculars you will be able to see humming birds and watch them interact with each other and their natural surroundings.

Whether you interest in bird watching is based solely on appreciating their beauty or if you are engaged in bird watching to learn more about this marvel of nature, the right binoculars will open up the door to learning more and appreciating all different types of birds from the well known to the unknown.

Make sure you research the binoculars before you buy them so you can gauge how effective they will be. Binoculars are rated for different distances, so keep that in mind as you pick the binoculars that are right for you.

You will want to consider the distance, style, weight and intended purpose of the binoculars before you purchase them. If you plan to hike with the binoculars in order to enjoy all different species of birds make sure you are comfortable with the weight of the binoculars as they can vary greatly in terms of size and weight.

Another factor to consider when researching bird watching binoculars is the intended purpose. Not all binoculars offer the same features, therefore, get a firm grasp on what you are hoping to accomplish and whether or not the binoculars will work. Some binoculars even allow you to take digital photos meaning you can begin an amazing collection of photos of birds in their natural habitat.

There are many affordable options for bird watching binoculars and most consumers find that the Internet is their best source to research and buy binoculars including bird watching binoculars.

Exploring Bird Watching Binoculars

As you prepare to enter the world of bird watching, you will need a great pair of bird watching binoculars are your primary piece of equipment for this incredible journey. Birding and bird watching is essentially the same thing, so comparing birding binoculars to bird watching binoculars wouldn't be too necessary because they are the same piece of equipment. Novices often get confused at the outset and end up buying two pairs of binoculars when they actually only need one. It is important to not get too caught up in what you are told you will need and get involved in nature instead.

So birding is the activity of watching and observing wild birds. Birds in captivity or in any type of cages are not wild birds, so heading over to the zoo with your bird watching binoculars around your neck is not birding. Birdwatchers observe birds in their natural habitats, learning to identify the birds and learning about what they do, how they live, and the typical bird experience. In North America alone, there are over eight hundred species of birds, so birding can be quite a mountain to climb with so much to see. With a little diligence and some adventure, it ends up being a great time for all involved.

More On Birding

Birding is actually something you can do in your own backyard with your bird watching binoculars and a glass of lemonade. You can take part in this activity at your local park or anywhere else you may travel because, as we know, birds are pretty much everywhere in the world. People of all ages participate in birding, too, so it is never an issue of it being an activity for only a certain age group and the like. The actuality is that birding is fast becoming a popular activity for all people of all ages and backgrounds.

In order to learn more about bird watching, you can take your bird watching binoculars and participate in a variety of nature walks in your area. Consider joining an actual birding group and get to know some people in the process as you encounter several wild birds. You can also subscribe to a magazine on bird watching or find out more information online and join a mailing list to get more information. This will help you gather your thoughts and information in a careful way so that when you hit the trails, you know what you are looking for and can point your binoculars to the right target.

Health is wealth. A healthy mind can think and work effectively. Today, people are suffering from various types of unheard and unseen diseases. Costs of treatment of some diseases are also very high. Some people can afford it, whereas, some people cannot afford it. The cost of treating the same disease varies from country to country. Medical tourism is flourishing day by day in various parts of the world. It is a blessing for the patients.

While trying to describe the rapid growth in traveling to places for getting oneself treated, travel agents and mass media coined the term medical tourism. Global healthcare is more likely to replace the term medical tourism. There are two reasons why people travel to other countries for treatment. Firstly, when the cost of treatment is very high in his own country and secondly, when the disease is incurable in his native place. People who need to undergo complex surgeries like joint replacement, cardiac surgery, dental surgery or cosmetic surgeries generally move to other countries. Cuba, Germany, Mexico, Panama, Jordan, Colombia, New Zealand, Singapore and India attract more and more patients. It is rapidly increasing day by day.

The governments of the respective countries also invest funds to develop the hospitals as well as work towards improved infrastructure. The government has also developed medical tourism to generate income for the country. Traveling to another country for treatment is not only cost effective but can successfully cure any sorts of diseases. Countries that provide medical treatment gives excellent health treatments to their patients and also have world class doctors. Patients that travel to some other countries get a good treatment from the doctors as well as from the medical staff. Doctors and medical staff work hard to make their patients happy and try to cure any major health problems that they are facing. They try to give full comfort to their patients. The different international healthcare accreditation schemes vary in quality, size and cost. They also vary in terms of cost according to the hospitals and healthcare institutions using them. They all have web sites.

Medical tourism provides various services to the patients. Private transportation is provided to the patients and his attendant. The vehicle will take them to any place. The hospitals will also provide interpretation assistance if needed by the patients to understand all the procedures of the hospitals. The hospitals will also provide cell phone or a 24-hour contact number. Accommodation is also arranged for the patients. The patients also get to know about the local customs of the place. The hospitals also provide many other facilities to the patient. The patients can very easily afford the expenditure of the treatment. Another advantage of this type of travel is that the patients will get to explore a new place which will refresh his body and mind.

The Ultimate Wedding: A Wedding Cruise Aboard A Yacht

If you want your wedding location to be beautiful, romantic, atmospheric, classy and luxurious, then you might want to consider chartering a yacht for your wedding day.

A wedding aboard a yacht has a surrealistic classic feel that is refreshing and a departure from the ordinary.

You and your guests will have a memorable experience sailing on the water. A good wedding yacht will be powered by sails rather then a powerboat where you hear the big diesel engine noise and smell the burning fuel exhaust.

Bruno Schwarz, owner of Aolani Cat Cruises of San Diego, CA, has helped hundreds of couples get married at sea.

“It’s a once in a lifetime unforgettable event.” Says Bruno. “People tell us that this was the best wedding they have ever been to.”

Many people find it to be so much nicer to be out in the fresh air out on the water rather then being stuck in some hotel room.

Bruno’s yacht can accommodate up to 49 guests. More can stand on the dock if you want to be married in front of the Sheraton Harbor Island Hotel and Marina, which is a very nice backdrop.

His boat lets you be outside or go inside a big salon with 360-degree views to escape the “elements” if it’s rainy, cold, windy or foggy where you find seating for 30 guests. On many regular sailboats everything takes place above deck with a small room below and only small portholes

The yacht has a flat TV Screen and BOSE surround system in and around the outside of the boat. People can bring their own ipod and his systems can support the audio or video.

You can get some nice wedding party photos of the yacht from a photographer in the dingy approximately 100 or 200 ft away from the boat. These can be taken with different beautiful backdrops like a beach cove or an old lighthouse or in front of a historic sailboat.

During his many wedding cruises, Bruno and his guests have seen dolphins and whales during ceremonies. Whales are generally seen in the winter, dolphins and sea lions may be seen all year.

Many people like to have their wedding at Sunset, which is usually a great time to perform the ceremony. If desired, the captain of the ship can perform the ceremony.

People can supply their own catering and music or it can be supplied by Bruno. The yacht can also be decorated with fresh cut flowers.

Bruno says that no bride has ever fallen in the water.

Vacation Secrets - 5 Unknown Travel Destinations in Panama

Panama is a country of cultural and natural beauty; its roots reach back into history as a trade hub and today, its skyline ever-evolving as a real estate and travel hotspot. But with all the widely-publicized beauty the country retains, here are our 5 spots you’ll rarely read about in pamphlets or see on TV.

Isla Canas, Los Santos: This small island just south of Pedasi in Panama’s Azuero Peninsula is a gem waiting to be discovered. It is the home to a thriving native population, some of the most secluded beaches in the country, and the nesting location of giant leatherback turtles. Bring a tent as few, if any, accommodations exist.

Lago Bayano, Darien: This giant lake sits in the province of Darien which, on paper, is a dangerous place due to its proximity to the border with Columbia. However, this region is far north enough to void you of harm; its pristine good looks enough to impress even the most seasoned eco-traveler. Explore the caves surrounding the rim of the lake, or discover hidden waterfalls on perhaps on of Panama’s most far-flung paradises.

Boca Brava, Chiriqui: An island, lying just off the coast of Boca Chica in the Chiriqui province, Boca Brava boasts white sand beaches and that great jungle-to-sea contrast. Hire a local boatman for the day (no commercial tours do this yet) and explore the surrounding coastal areas where, chances are, you’ll be the only one in sight. The sport fishing is world-class, the indigenous Indians are culturally rich, and it’s only an hour from the capital city of David!

Playa Chiquita, Colon: The Caribbean coast in Panama is developing at a slower rate than the Pacific, but there are still wonderfully quaint towns to enjoy. Drive up to Colon and head past Portobello to find this lovely beach area identified by a small fishing village and a tiny hotel. It’s about 25 minutes by boat from the nearest docking area and sports that wonderful Caribbean calm; clear waters, rustling palm trees, and a beer on the beach are in order.

Torio, Veraguas: Veraguas in the only province in the world that coasts two different oceans. Wander down the Azuero Peninsula to the sleepy town of Torio for surfing, hiking, or simple beach relaxation. It’s an easy drive from the hub town of Santiago on a finely-paved road. Stop at one of the roadside shacks for fried fish or enjoy some of the last remaining textarea.25 beers in the Republic.

It’s best to explore these unknown paradises by car seeing as though most tour groups don’t offer trips there. Also one can find easily panama real estate for sale. You will find locals to be friendly and the atmosphere to be far off the radar of traditional tourism crowds. They provide the perfect match against a night or two in cosmopolitan Panama City; showing how Panama, the hub of the Americas, is truly destined for tourism stardom.

Can Green Taxes save the Environment?

They are intended to change our behaviour and the way that we live, to make us less wasteful and conserve scarce resources for generations to come. We are consuming the planets resources at an unsustainable rate and this article will look at 3 of the proposed taxes to see if it will change anything.

Green Tax No 1. To try and persuade us to drive less, the government has increased petrol prices by 1.5 pence per litre. Not much you might say, but it makes our petrol even more expensive and we already pay one of the highest rates in Europe. It will now cost you up to 50 pence more when you go to the petrol station to fill your tank up, will this make you drive less? I think not, therefore is this a green tax or just a plain and simple money making tax. Every extra penny per litre adds millions of pounds to the governments income per year.

Green Tax No 2. Air passenger duty is due to rise from £5 to £10. Even on short haul flights this is not going to make much difference. Are you not going to go on holiday or visit friends by air because it costs you an extra fiver more- again I think not! This extra £5 will raise millions of pounds for the government in revenue.

Green Tax No 3. Ken Livingston the London Mayor wants to charge 4x4 gas guzzling residents of London much higher parking and congestion charge fees. They may be angered by the tax, but they may just pay-up. Especially as London now has more million and billionaires then almost anywhere else on the plant. I agree that this is a step in the right direction proving the amounts are high enough to make people think twice about buying one. I have friends that have 4x4 as they want more room for their partner and one child. Get real!

With all these green taxes being introduced I find it difficult to believe that the government allows for the rail fares to be increased above inflation pushing more people into using cars. I have been on those expensive, crammed, rush hour trains and its not nice I can tell.

When the tax payer has some real options to help reduce carbon emissions, then a taxation regime to deal with unnecessary pollution appears more justified, at the moment it seems like raising money is the main objective and not cutting the effects of climate change.

Spa Covers Going Green?

All this talk about going green, a big part of saving the environment is to not create more waste that will just end up clogging our land fills. Follow me on this for a minute... There are 10 million spa owners in the USA, and each one of them uses a typical rigid foam spa cover on their hot tub. For the sake of this demonstration each foam cover is only two inches thick and every spa is eight feet by eight feet. That would mean each spa cover contained about 10.666 cubic feet of foam per spa cover. For the rest of this example we will use 10.5 cubic feet per cover.

If each cover on every spa becomes saturated within two years and needs to be replaced that would mean that we would be adding 52.5 million cubic feet of waste to our landfills in just spa covers every year.
If it takes two and a half covers worth of foam to make up one cubic yard that translates to 4 million cubic yards of waste added to our land fills every two years just in spa covers.

If there are 11 million Cubic yards of stone in the Great Pyramid at Giza, we are adding enough foam to build a duplicate of it to our landfills just from used spa covers every six years conservatively. There are four and a half million cubic yards of concrete in Hoover Dam. We could build a two lane highway of discarded foam filled spa covers from Seattle Washington to Miami Florida every two years.

In case you have not noticed most foam filled spa covers are not two inches thick anymore. If all those old foam covers were four inches thick all these calculations would be double.
But we are just being conservative so we want to stick with two inches thick. If we ripped the covers in half and laid those pieces end to end we could circle the earth at the equator on used spa covers every two years.

Heck with parking lots, in a few years we could pave the entire planet with foam just from saturated foam spa covers from the USA alone.

So what is the solution? Well shop for a better spa cover. There are options available on the internet that your local spa dealer probably does not offer. You do not have to quit using your spa to save us. You just need to get a Spa Cover that does not use foam to insulate. There would be two major advantages to doing so. First the spa cover that did not use rigid foam to insulate would last longer. Since what always fails in the typical spa cover is the foam, either breaking or getting so saturated that you cannot lift it, a spa cover that did not use foam would tend to last longer.

Second, if the new type of spa cover does not use rigid foam it will also be a lot more friendly to the environment when it does come time to discard it. Less trash, less waste, less land fill, not that is what going green is all about.

Origins, Flavors and Health Benefits

How many times do we just want to drink tea after a heavy meal, but are then bombarded with all the various tea flavours that we get lost. This article answers that need.

What you should always remember is that there are only four types of tea.
1) Black tea
2) Green tea
3) White tea
4) Oolong tea

All these are made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis, also known as the tea plant. Other herbal infusions such as chamomile tea, ginger tea or red tea made of rooibos leaves are disqualified as types of tea since the tea plant is not involved in their making. The difference between the four tea variations lies in the process of making them. In addition, each type of tea has another flavor and various health benefits.

1) Black Tea
The strong flavored burnt Sienna colored hot beverage is the most popular type of tea in the West. Either served with a squeeze of lemon or added milk and a cube of sugar, the cup of black tea is part of daily tea ceremonies that take place worldwide. Black tea is made of heavily oxidized Camellia sinensis leaves. When served plain, it contains no calories, carbohydrates, or fats. A cup of black tea contains more caffeine than any other types of tea but less than in any cup of coffee.

2) Green Tea
The lightly oxidized tea has been popular in China, Japan and Korea for centuries. Recently, rumors on its health benefits increased its popularity in the West as well. It has been proven that drinking green tea can lower cholesterol, prevent cancer, increase metabolic rates and be helpful in variety of other conditions and illnesses. The green tea is lightly oxidized, dried, but not fermented. It is usually served plain, without sugar or milk. Since some of the green tea variants taste a bit bitter, it should be brewed in lower temperature than the boiling point.

3) White Tea
White tea is rarer and more expensive than the other types of teas mentioned above. Originated in the Fujian province of china, the white tea is made of young Camellia sinensis leaves, which go through a long process of steaming or frying, inactivate fermenting and drying. Since the leaves are harvested while the buds are still covered by white hair, it is called white tea. White tea has the most delicate, sweet taste than the other types of tea. Moreover, it contains the smallest amount of caffeine and the largest amount of antioxidant that help prevent cancer.

4) Oolong Tea
The traditional Chinese tea is the common companion of Chinese foods such as dim sum and chop suey in American Chinese restaurants. The oolong tea, black dragon in Chinese, got its name after its long, dark distinguished leaves that look like wild black dragons when brewed. The unique taste of the oolong tea is achieved by a long process that includes sun drying of the Camellia sinensis leaves, light oxidization, cooling and drying processes. The result is a lighter flavor than the popular black tea and stronger than the delicate green tea.
